In Thailand, there are plenty of historic parks and national parks that would make excellent settings for movie productions. This article highlights a comprehensive guide for filmmakers intending to use them for their films.

Filming in Historial Parks

Thailand’s historic parks are full of cultural heritage and can also provide the main sites for filming in Thailand. Besides, approval to shoot in Thailand granted by the Thailand Film Office, film productions would need to ask for a cooperation letter to be issued to the Fine Arts Department for permission for filming in historic parks.

Documents Required

  • A copy of the ID card and household registration of the local coordinator.
  • The Thai translation of the final script.
  • A detailed filming schedule and costume designs.
  • Total number of actors and crew (both Thai and foreign).
  • Filming permit issued by the Thailand Film Office.

Filming in National  Parks

Most national parks of Thailand have outstanding scenery that also qualifies as film locations. Filming can be allowed by permission from the Department of National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation after applying to the Thailand Film Office for a co-operation letter addressed to that department.

  • Application forms specifying the filming schedule and park locations.
  • A synopsis and storyboard/final script.
  • Filming permit issued by the Thailand Film Office.

Filming Regulations:

Filmmakers are required to inform the Head of the National Park at least one working day prior to the date of filming. Any changes in schedule or location must be approved in advance.

How to Pay:

For location and entry charges, one shall pay directly to the respective National Park Office.

Using Drones for Filming

A permit to use drones has to be granted by the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand, Ministry of Transport for aerial filming. Weight of drones does not exceed 25 kg and the person manning the UAV must abide by the following:

Applicant Requirements:

  • Natural Persons: Must be at least 20 years old, pose no threat to national security, and have no criminal record for narcotics or customs violations.
  • Juristic Persons: Legal representatives and managers must meet the above criteria.
